columbus crew goalkeeper william hesmer says team must demand perfection on defense

The LA Galaxy still haven't sorted out their goalkeeping situation, although they are striving to do so before heading to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for next week's MLS Player Combine.

The club Saturday informed MLSsoccer.com that a deal to sign former Columbus Crew netminder William Hesmer, reported last week by Soccer By Ives, “is not done yet.”

Negotiations to get Hesmer under contract signal that Josh Saunders, LA's No. 1 the past season-and-a-half, likely will not return next season after the expiration of his contract.

The Galaxy acquired Hesmer's rights in the second-stage draft of last month's Re-Entry process.

LA signed Italian goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini earlier this week on a free transfer from Tottenham Hotspur, and backup Brian Perk last month reached agreement on a new deal, according to his agent, that is yet to be officially announced. Brian Rowe, signed from MLS' goalkeeper pool last July, also is under contract.
