Seattle's Alonso training for a week with West Ham United

Osvaldo Alonso reacts to his booking

Despite making statements at the end of the year that they didn’t expect any of their players to go on European training stints this offseason, the Seattle Sounders confirmed to MLSsoccer.com on Tuesday that midfielder Osvaldo Alonso is currently doing just that with English Premier League club West Ham United.

The training session is scheduled to last one week and was set up in conjunction with Alonso’s agent and the Sounders, according to a team spokesman.

This is Alonso’s second training stint in England in the past three years. He spent time with Everton in 2010.

Alonso, 27, earned his first career MLS Best XI selection in 2012 after logging a team-high 2,688 minutes in league play. He also started in the MLS All-Star game against Chelsea, and acquired US citizenship during the season.
