Sporting KC to unveil new Designated Player on Tuesday

Peter Vermes claps

Peter Vermes hinted to ExtraTime Radio last week that Sporting Kansas City still had room to sign a Designated Player, and he wasn't kidding around. Sporting KC announced they will unveil a new DP on Tuesday at Livestrong Sporting Park.

The 2012 Supporters' Shield runners-up have been busy so far this offseason, already trading for World Cup veteran Benny Feilhaber, center back Ike Opara and defender/midfielder Josh Gardner, as well as signing Cameroonian defender Yoann Songo'o.

Now, with a busy 2013 that will also include CONCACAF Champions League play, they'll add the fourth Designated Player in club history. There's no indication from Sporting KC who the player is, but reports have linked the club to Argentine striker Claudio Bieler.

That would certainly follow along with Sporting's previous DPs, all of whom were attacking players from Latin America: Argentine striker Claudio López, Mexican forward Omar Bravo and Brazilian midfielder Jéferson.
