FC Dallas have confirmed that former captain Daniel Hernandez is out as assistant coach just a month after retiring to transition to the position on a full-time basis.
The exact reason for Hernandez’s removal is unclear, but head coach Schellas Hyndman confirmed in a statement that the Texas native is no longer with the club.
"In regards to the inquiries on the status of Daniel Hernandez, per team policy, we do not comment on employment matters," said Hyndman. "What I can tell you is that we appreciate everything Daniel has done for our club over the past three-and-a-half seasons and we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors."
The club declined to comment on the report over the weekend by 3rd Degree that Hernandez was fired.
Hernandez spent the past three-plus seasons with FC Dallas after returning from Mexico in September of 2009. He wore the captain's armband during his time in Frisco under Hyndman, who was his coach during his college days at SMU.
