Toronto FC shoot down rumors of coach offer to Marsch

Montreal Impact coach Jesse Marsch

Toronto FC continued to shoot down rumors Monday that former Montreal Impact Jesse Marsch head coach has been offered the head coaching job with the Reds.

“There is nothing to the rumors,” a club official told MLSsoccer. com on Monday.

Kevin Payne who recently took over as Toronto FC president and general manager was not available for an interview on Monday.

But when the rumors first emerged on Saturday, Payne told ESPN.com soccer columnist Jeff Carlisle that the story was “a complete fabrication.” Toronto head coach Paul Mariner also texted Carlisle that he was not being replaced.

It was first reported on the Twitter feed of RDS' Patrick Friolet that Marsch, who parted with the Impact after the club’s first MLS season, apparently had an offer to become the boss at Toronto FC. Club officials denied the rumor on Saturday and did so again on Monday.

When Payne took over the TFC job on Nov. 28 he said at his introductory media conference that Mariner would continue as head coach.
