Two weeks after being presented as one of the top members of Chivas USA’s front office, Jose Domene may be out of a job.
According to a report from the Los Angeles Times, Chivas USA have fired Domene, parting ways with their general manager just shy of three months from when Jorge Vergara bought out former partners Antonio and Lorenzo Cue and became full owner of los Rojiblancos.
Domene, 32, stepped into the GM role in 2010, just after the team had made its second coaching move in a 12-month span. Domene helped bring Robin Fraser aboard as head coach before the 2011 season and was part of a series of moves the club had made to help stabilize the franchise.
This season, Domene beefed up the roster by trading for players such as Juan Agudelo and Danny Califf in May and Shalrie Joseph in August in an attempt to help the club reach the postseason. However, Chivas fell flat on their faces, failed to win a match after July and missed the playoffs for the third consecutive season. The club finished last in the Western Conference with a 7-18-9 record, their 30 points second from the bottom in the enitre league.
Fraser and other members of his coaching staff were fired after the season, ensuring that Chivas would start the 2013 season with fourth head coach in a span of five seasons.
When Vergara displayed an organizational chart during a press conference on Nov. 13, Domene’s name was near the top of the chart. Vergara also said then that a new coach would be hired within 7-10 days, but that time frame came and went with no replacement for Fraser yet named.
Chivas USA have yet to respond to a request for comment from MLSsoccer.com.
