AMSTERDAM – A pair of Americans crossed the lines on Wednesday, with Michael Parkhurst and FC Nordsjælland suffering a 4-0 Champions League Group E loss away to Serie A holders Juventus.
Two weeks after holding the Bianconeri in Denmark, the visitors conceded early and often to all but end their advancement hopes. Parkhurst was not directly culpable on any of the goal breakdowns, but did have some struggles at the back.
Nordsjælland now stand five points shy of third place and their parachute to the Europa League with two group matches remaining. Parkhurst & Co. will welcome Ukrainian kings Shakhtar Donetsk to Farum Park on Nov. 20 needing a victory and some help to keep the club's deepest-ever European campaign alive.
Over in Denmark's DBU-Pokalen, Clarence Goodson skippered Brøndby to the quarterfinals in a 3-0 victory over visiting Silkeborg. Despite being winless since September and without a clean sheet for six games, the six-time Danish Cup champs were able to ride a trio of second-half strikes into the final eight.
