Chivas USA have announced changes to the structure of their organization, the team announced Tuesday evening.
Owners Jorge Vergara (above) and Angelica Fuentes have appointed Jose David as the team's president, while former Chivas de Guadalajara head coach Jose Luis Real will supervise the team's soccer operations.
The Mexican-born David is a businessman with extensive experience in admistrative and organizational work, and has worked with a number of Mexican multi-national corporations in both Mexico and the US, where he has lived for the past 13 years.
“I am very proud to be part of the Grupo Omnilife-Chivas,” David said in a statement. “Definitely the goal is to be a leader in Major League Soccer. We will be generating a new era in the organization similar to the standards of success of Jorge Vergara and Angelica Fuentes.”
Real, known in the soccer world as El Güero, comes to Chivas USA from the team's Guadalajara-based namesake, where he was head coach from 2009-2011 and currently serves as the director of athletic development. He was also the head of Chivas' famed youth academy, which has produced a wealth of talented Mexican players, most notably current Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez.
“Real will supervise all soccer operations for Chivas USA – including coaching staff, players, Academy and player development," David explained. "Real will continue to reside primarily in Guadalajara, where he currently is the director of athletic development for Chivas, but will visit Los Angeles with regularity to make his appropriate supervisions accordingly with the area of soccer operations.”
Chivas USA will close out a disappointing season when they travel to FC Dallas on Sunday and are set to miss out on the postseason for the third year running. They currently hold a 7-18-8 record, good for last place in the Western Conference, and have managed to find the net just 22 times in 33 games this year.
