Seattle's Evans wins first career Player of the Week award

Seattle's Fredy Montero congratulates Brad Evans on his goal vs. Dallas.

Brad Evans can do it all.

After a monster week, which has some pushing for his recall to the USMNT, the Seattle Sounders midfielder/defender captured his first career MLS Player of the Week award as voted by the North American Soccer Reporters. (See how the media voted here.)

First, he filled in at both right back and central defense in a 0-0 tie against Real Salt Lake last Wednesday. Then after putting in the defensive work that helped earn a shutout for a 10-man Sounders side in midweek, Evans returned to his usual midfield role against FC Dallas on Sunday and scored the Sounders' first two goals en route to a 3-1 win.

He becomes the fourth Sounders player to win the award after Eddie Johnson (Week 22 and 27) and David Estrada (Week 2).

And while many are wondering whether Evans will be back in the USMNT after he was a late addition to the January camp roster, Evans has bigger things on his radar during the upcoming playoffs, where the Sounders will face Real Salt Lake in the Western Conference semis.

"I think we are hungry more than anything," Evans said after Sunday's match. "We can compete with anybody, and we have shown that throughout the year. For us, I think that we are confident, but we aren't overconfident. I think we are playing with our backs against the wall and a chip on our shoulder. We are not overconfident, but I know the players we have, and I am confident with what we can do."
