AMSTERDAM – Several US internationals returned to club duty on Sunday, with Tim Howard backstopping 10-man Everton to a 1-1 draw at Queens Park Rangers.
After being foiled by David Hoilett's sharply deflected second-minute opener, the netminder tallied five saves. Howard got a measure of revenge on the Canadian forward with a strong pair of diving stops after the break as the fourth place Toffees stayed unbeaten in five EPL games.
Over in Serie A, Michael Bradley came on for the final few minutes of AS Roma's 4-2 fightback win at Genoa. Down two after just 15 minutes, the Giallorossi scored four unanswered goals to retain fifth place.
Bundesliga action saw a strong effort from FC Nürnberg right back Timothy Chandler in a 0-0 stalemate with visiting Augsburg. Despite snapping a four-game losing run, Der Club slipped two places to 15th place.
Next door in Austria, Rapid Vienna forward Terrence Boyd was a halftime sub of some impact in a 2-0 derby loss at Austria Vienna. The team's top scorer went close and made the ref's book as the Green-Whites fell to third place from their first league loss since August.
Up north in Norway's Tippeligaen, Josh Gatt played the first half at right back, departing long before defending champs Molde FK leaked late in a 1-1 draw at Strømsgodset. The speedster picked up a yellow card just before leaving as the visitors dropped to second place behind Rosenborg on goal differential.
Steve Clark notched five saves as Hønefoss were held to a 0-0 home draw by visiting cellar-dwellers Stabæk. The 10th place home side saw their win drought extended to eight games.
Meanwhile, Chad Barrett was an unused sub in Vålerenga's 3-1 loss at Aalesund FK.
Across the border in Sweden's Allsvenskan, Alejandro Bedoya earned Man of the Match honors as Helsingborg settled for a 1-1 draw with former employers Örebro. The American's sharp pass set up Nikola Djurdjic's 36th-minute opener, but a 90th-minute leveler by the visitors cost the Reds all hopes of a title repeat.
In Spain's second flight, Carlos Bocanegra worked a busy shift in Racing Santander's 0-0 draw with Lugo. The US captain went close to scoring with an early header and saw yellow soon after as the hosts extended their winless slide to four games.
Finally, in Taça de Portugal third-round play, Tony Taylor went unused as Estoril bowed out with a 2-1 home defeat to Arturo Alvarez and Paços de Ferreira.
