Fabian Johnson to miss USMNT qualifier vs. Guatemala

Fabian Johnson with the US national team

Jurgen Klinsmann will have to dig deep once again to find a left back for the US national team's upcoming qualifier vs. Guatemala (7:30 pm ET, ESPN 2, live chat on MLSsoccer.com).

US Soccer announced Sunday that Klinsmann's first choice at the position, Fabian Johnson, will be held out of the game after failing to recover from the flu. No replacement is expected to be called.

Johnson had originally been expected to recover in time after missing out on the USA's 2-1 win at Antigua & Barbuda. Second-choice Edgar Castillo also picked up an injury and was slated to miss both games, and Carlos Bocanegra shifted over from to fill in for the two injured players in the Caribbean.

The US also lost attacking players Landon Donovan and Brek Shea last week, severely limiting Klinsmann's options out wide in the narrow win.
