October means a lot of things in MLS. The playoff field is determined, the Golden Boot winner crowned and starting soon, the pink balls are rolled out.
How come? Well, if you're just joining us, MLS W.O.R.K.S. announced the details around the League's breast cancer awareness campaign that will go into effect...tonight.
Yep, when the bright lights come on at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park tonight for Sporting KC-Chicago, you'll see a brand new pink adidas PRIME matchball being kicked about, and that's just the start of a month-long push to raise awareness and funds for cancer research and treatment.
What else is going on? Look out for a special pink MLS W.O.R.K.S. ribbon patch on every player kit, pink shoelaces, pink sweatbands, you name it. Your club's goalkeeper might even end up donning a pair of pink gloves.
All 19 clubs will be participating (awesome), and an array of limited edition Breast Cancer Awareness swag will be available at the stadiums, in special retail locations and on MLSGear.com/MLSGearCanada.ca.
The best part about that? A portion of the proceeds will benefit the National Breast Cancer Foundation as well as the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation in Canada.
That's all in addition to the auction of the pink match balls and game-worn gear on MLSSoccer.com/works starting on October 15.
