American Exports: Boca's move to Santander cleared

Carlos Bocanegra

AMSTERDAM – The agent for US captain Carlos Bocanegra reports that his client's temporarily delayed move from Rangers to Racing Santander gained league clearance on Friday evening.

The defender's loan deal had been on hold since last Friday's transfer deadline day, when he completed the arrangement near the witching hour. Scottish media speculation raised the possibility that Bocanegra could be returned to Rangers due to Santander being tardy in registration with the Segunda División office, but it has now been determined that all necessary paperwork had been filed before the transfer buzzer.

"Carlos has gained clearance for the loan move to Racing Santander," Bocanegra's agent, Lyle Yorks, told MLSsoccer.com. "He will be available for selection when he returns [from US duty]."

Bocanegra, who is preparing for Friday's CONCACAF World Cup qualifier in Jamaica, will get his first chance to suit up for Racing when Recreativo Huelva pay a visit on Sept. 15. Winless in three thus far this season, the Highlanders will travel to Huesca on Sunday.
