Smith's last-gasp clearance takes Save of the Week

Steven Smith

Okay, so not everything has gone as planned for the Portland Timbers this season.

But the club will certainly take the high points when they can get them during Year 2 on the MLS map, including a last-gasp header from defender Steven Smith that preserved a cathartic 2-1 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps and gave the Scotsman the Save of the Week for Week 25.

Timbers supporters showed up with reinforcements in the polls, lifting Smith to an easy win over former Portland goalkeeper and current Montreal netminder in the final tally. Smith garnered more than 56 percent of the vote, while Perkins trailed far behind at 22 percent.
