AMSTERDAM – Rangers defender Carlos Bocanegra has joined Spanish second division outfit Racing Santander on a season-long loan.
The US captain, who had rejected moves to Eintracht Frankfurt and Olympiakos, also entertained interest from his old stomping grounds of England and France during the summer.
Bocanegra is expected to wear No. 3 for Los Verdiblancos, who were relegated as basement club from La Liga this spring. They have opened the new Segunda Division campaign with consecutive losses, extending their winless slide in league play to 22 games.
It is unclear at this time whether Bocanegra will be registered in time to dress when Santander host fellow top-flight dropouts Gijón on Sunday.
