American Exports: Hoffenheim loan Gyau out to St. Pauli

Joseph Gyau is set for his first-team debut for Hoffenheim

AMSTERDAM – Hoffenheim wing prospect Joseph Gyau will spend the season on loan to 2.Bundesliga outfit St. Pauli.

The Pirates also have an option to extend the loan for a second season. Gyau has just begun a fresh three-year deal with Hoffenheim.

"For Joseph, this is the right step at this time," Hoffenheim manager Markus Babbel told the club website. "He must continue getting games in order to grow. This was not possible with us due to the large competition in our squad."

Gyau, who made his Hoffenheim debut in a DfB-Pokal match this past February, has scored twice in 29 career games with the second team. He is set to become the fifth American to suit up for St. Pauli, following Paul Caligiuri, Cory Gibbs, Ian Joy and Michael Mason.

St. Pauli, who are winless in three league games this season, host Andrew Wooten and Sandhausen on Saturday.
