Ricketts' two-save effort wins Week 24 Save of the Week

Donovan Ricketts, Portland Timbers

Donovan Ricketts and Troy Perkins have something to prove.

Two weeks after making headlines for their straight swap between the Portland Timbers and the Montreal Impact, the two netminders have now taken the past two Save of the Week crowns.

It was Perkins first in his debut with Montreal vs. New England, and a week later his counterpart Ricketts earns top honors for his incredible two-save effort for Portland against the New York Red Bulls.

The new Timbers man denied a flick header from Thierry Henry with a reaction kick save before throwing his body in front of Sebastien Le Toux's point-blank shot and parrying it away to safety. At the time, Ricketts' efforts kept the Timbers level with New York at 2-2.

It is the second Save of the Week award in 2012 for Ricketts, and his first with Portland, after being given the nod while with Montreal in Week 5. The recipient of nearly 55 percent of the vote, Ricketts easily edged out runner-up Bill Gaudette — his opposite number for the Red Bulls — who managed to deflect a clear scoring chance from Darlington Nagbe just minutes after Ricketts' save.
