Perkins wins MLS Save of the Week on debut for Montreal

Troy Perkins, Montreal Impact (August 12, 2012)

Make it a clean sweep for the Montreal Impact.

After Sanna Nyassi claimed the AT&T Goal of the Week for Week 23, his teammate and goalkeeper Troy Perkins captured the Save of the Week after fans voted his stop on a header by New England's Saer Sene on Aug. 12 the best from last weekend.

The former Timbers 'keeper left an immediate impression on his debut for the Impact, recording a shutout just five days after the Aug. 7 trade that brought him to the 2012 expansion side. In the 70th minute he made one of four stops against the Revolution, palming Sene's header over the crossbar when it seemed destined for the top left corner.

The 31-year-old Perkins is the second Montreal Impact goalkeeper to win the award this year after Donovan Ricketts in Week 5. Perkins, who also won the award in Week 12 while with the Timbers, swapped places with Ricketts in the trade between the Timbers and Impact.

He won the majority of votes this week, beating the reigning Save of the Week winner, Kevin Hartman, who came in second.
