Sporting KC's Collin suffers facial fractures, out 1-2 weeks

Aurelien Collin

Sporting Kansas City defender Aurélien Collin is expected to miss 1-2 weeks, the club announced on Thursday.

The All-Star center back suffered two facial fractures in a midfield collision with Chelsea's Michael Essien during Wednesday's AT&T MLS All-Star Game at PPL Park. The 26-year-old Frenchman started for Ben Olsen's squad alongside Vancouver's Jay DeMerit in the back line, going 36 minutes before being replaced because of injury by Philadelphia's Carlos Valdés.

Collin has started all 21 regular season matches this season, helping lead the Sporting Kansas City defense to nine shutouts and an MLS-best 0.90 goals against average. In his second MLS season, he's contributed three goals and one assist.

Sporting KC's next league game will be this Saturday, July 28 (8:30 pm ET, watch LIVE online) when they welcome the Columbus Crew to Livestrong Sporting Park.
