American Exports: Another title for Kljestan, Anderlecht

Sacha Kljestan celebrates Anderlecht's title

AMSTERDAM – Sacha Kljestan and Anderlecht picked up right where they left off last season on Sunday, claiming a piece of silver thanks to a thrilling 3-2 Belgian Supercup win over Lokeren in the friendly confines of Constant Vanden Stock Stadium.

The midfielder came on with about five minutes remaining to mop up after the Mauves blew a two-goal lead before Guillaume Gillet decided matters for good 15 minutes from time. Anderlecht will begin their Jupiler League title defense at Kortrijk on Saturday.

Over in Denmark, Conor O'Brien and SønderjyskE remain tops through two games after settling for a 1-1 home draw with FC Copenhagen.

The midfielder helped during the build as the hosts jumped ahead through Eyjólfur Hédinsson near the half hour, but Mos Abdellaoue answered back for the Lions only six minutes later. SønderjyskE are now unbeaten in both the last three games against Danish power Copenhagen and their last eight league matches at home.

Randers FC forward Charlie Davies debuted with 21 minutes off the bench in a 1-0 victory at Odense BK.

The new arrival displayed some danger on the counterattack to help the visitors salt away the three points. For promoted Randers, it marked their first Superliga win on the road in over 16 months.

Brøndby skipper Clarence Goodson saw yellow as the away side fell into the league basement with a 2-1 defeat at Aalborg BK. The Lads from the Western Outskirts have now dropped four straight Superliga road games and six of seven, dating back to last season.

A short ferry ride away in Norway, Steve Clark posted his first Tippeligaen shutout in goal since mid-May as Hønefoss climbed to sixth place with a 2-0 win at Fredrikstad.

The Michigan native required just one save to do the job. Though the 117-year-old mites have never been to Europe, the result pulled them to within four points of a Europa League place.

Sean Cunningham and his center back partner each had a rough day in woeful Stabæk's 3-1 loss to rude guests Vålerenga. Loan striker Marcus Pedersen toasted the home defense twice in the final 22 minutes to doom the Blue Ones to their fourth straight league defeat.
