American Exports: Gatt, Molde closer to next round of CL

AMSTERDAM – Josh Gatt and Norwegian champs Molde FK put one leg in the next round of the Champions League on Wednesday by posting a 3-0 win over second qualifying-round visitors Ventspils.

The young winger was troublesome throughout and drew two first half saves from the away goalkeeper. Despite Molde having several good opportunities to score over the opening 45 minutes, the game went to intermission scoreless.

Tippeligaen scoring leader Davy Claude Angan then sandwiched a second-half double around Vegard Forren's penalty conversion to give Molde their first Champions League victory since 1999 and a comfy cushion for next Wednesday's return leg in Latvia.

Elsewhere, Zeljeznicar defender Danijal Brković went unused as the Bosnian champions blew an early lead to fall 4-1 at Slovenian powers Maribor.
