Crew's Renteria suspended by MLS Disciplinary Committee

Emilio Renteria - March 24, 2012

NEW YORK — A heady play by Emilio Rentería over the weekend has landed him in hot water.

The MLS Disciplinary Committee on Tuesday fined the Columbus Crew forward and suspended him one game for his role in an altercation with Sporting Kansas City's Paulo Nagamura in the 68th minute of their match this past Saturday.

With Sporting up 1-0 in the 68th minute, Nagamura tripped up Rentería as he raced toward goal and the Venezuelan international took exception, going nose-to-nose with Nagamura and applying a head butt. Referee Edvin Jurisevic handed out two yellow cards on the play.

Rentería will miss the Crew's next match at home against D.C. United on Saturday night (7:30 p.m. ET, MLS LIVE).
