American Exports: Gatt, O'Brien score in winning efforts

AMSTERDAM – A pair of American exports found the net on Saturday, with Conor O'Brien bagging SønderjyskE's fourth goal as the home side kicked off the new Danish Superliga season with a 6-1 demolition of Randers FC.

Only three minutes after the visitors had cut the lead to 3-1, the New York native buried a long-range missile for his first career tally at Haderslev Fodboldstadion. SønderjyskE, who also closed last season with a five-goal home rout, surged to take the early league lead.

New Randers recruit Charlie Davies dressed, but did not appear.

In nearby Norway, Josh Gatt fired an opportunistic opener as defending champs Molde FK got back on the winning track with a 2-1 smash-and-grab at Vålerenga.

Just before the half hour, the right winger expertly slotted a rebound off the post for his third goal of the season. Tippeligaen top gun Davy Claude Angan would eventually hit the decider three minutes from time, tentatively pushing second-placed Molde to within a point of Monday combatants Strømsgodset, who sit in pole position.
