A shock defeat to tiny Central African Republic in qualifying for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations has seriously damaged Bob Bradley’s mission to restore Egypt to its traditional spot at the top of African football.
Six-time African champions, Egypt failed to qualify for this year’s edition of the tournament, and now they will miss out for a second time in a row.
Needing to win by two goals following their stunning 3-2 loss in Alexandria two weeks ago, Bradley’s Pharoahs could muster only a 1-1 draw in Bangui on Saturday. That gave the minnows from CAR a 4-3 victory on aggregate.
Foxi Kethevoama notched a header in the 23rd minute to give the hosts the lead, before Emad Meteb equalized in the 72nd minute.
