AT&T GOTW Update: Ianni leads vote with flying side volley

Seattle's Patrick Ianni celebrates after scoring a spectacular goal against Sporting KC.

AT&T Goal of the Week: Week 16

Patrick Ianni isn't known for the spectacular. That doesn't mean he can't pull it off on occasion.

Against Sporting KC last Wednesday, service from a set piece found Ianni in an awkward position. Still, he managed to ditch his defender and put full force behind his flying side volley to score what could be the goal of the season thus far. His strike left 'keeper Jimmy Nielsen helpless and ensured a point for a scuffling Sounders side still searching for an elusive victory.

After four days of voting, that acrobatic strike has Ianni leading the race for the AT&T Goal of the Week by more than 20 percent of the votes.

Behind him, Marco Pappa is gunning for his second GotW this season for his long-range drive that left Crew goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum flailing. Just behind him is New York hero Brandon Barklage, whose first-time volley helped send the Red Bulls to a 3-2 rivalry win against D.C. United.

Voting continues until 11:59 pm PT on Thursday, so let us know which goal deserves Week 16 Goal of the Week honors. The winner is determined by online and text vote, and will be announced on Friday.

Here are the results as of Thursday morning:

1. Patrick Ianni (SEA) 43%
2. Marco Pappa (CHI) 22%
3.
Brandon Barklage (NY) 19%
4.
Javier Morales (RSL) 12%
5. Eddie Johnson (SEA) 4%
