Goat Notes: Correa, Bolanos may be out against Montreal

CARSON, Calif. – Chivas USA will likely be without the services of three of their most important offensive weapons when they host the Montreal Impact on Wednesday (10:30 pm ET, watch LIVE online).

Forward José Erik Correa (above left; right hamstring strain) and midfielder Miller Bolaños (left hamstring strain) missed Saturday’s defeat at the hands of Real Salt Lake and may be joining Nick LaBrocca (left hamstring strain) on an extended injury layoff.

The three players were training apart from the group prior to the club’s Reserve League match against Portland on Monday, but are still doubtful for Wednesday.

“I think that [they are] probably unlikely,” said head coach Robin Fraser of the injured trio. “I’m not a 100 percent sure, but they’re coming along and doing very well.”

Burling continues to impress, Akwari also trialing

Bobby Burling is continuing to impress during his trial with Chivas USA.

The 27-year-old center back was solid during his second Reserve League appearance with the Rojiblancos on Monday. Throughout his 90-minute stint against the Timbers, Burling marshaled the defense making several key stops. With another solid performance in the books, Burling is earning high marks from Fraser, but there is no guarantee the onetime Chivas defender will be brought in the fold.

“I think that he’s gotten better and better in the time that he’s been here,” said Fraser. “He’s gotten sharper by training every day. We have to evaluate where we are. It’s not like in another league or another country where we can just pick up players left and right. Obviously, we just need to see if there is a way that we would be able to fit him in.”

Burling was not the only trialist in central defense for Chivas as the club also invited 30-year-old Nelson Akwari, who has played for three MLS teams and a host of lower division clubs throughout his 10-year career. Akwari spent last season with USL Pro side LA Blues while he completed his degree at UCLA.
