Tottenham's Nelsen not headed back to DC, says agent

Ryan Nelsen with Tottenham Hotspur

AMSTERDAM — Contrary to UK tabloid reports, soon-to-be free agent Tottenham Hotspur defender Ryan Nelsen is not in negotiations for a return to D.C. United, according to his agent.

While the New Zealand captain has previously spoken of his desire to return to the capital crew, MLSsoccer.com has learned that the 34-year-old is in discussions with at least one Premier League club.

"Ryan will be staying in England," said Nelsen's agent, Lyle Yorks. "He's not in discussions with D.C. United."

The former Black-and-Red star worked just six contests for Spurs, and only three in EPL play, after arriving from Blackburn last winter. Nelsen was recently informed by Tottenham that they would not be picking up his option.

In four seasons with United, Nelsen won MLS Cup 2004 and twice earned MLS Best XI recognition.
