Save of the Week

Perkins' desperation stop earns Save of the Week

Troy Perkins

An object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted on by an unbalanced force.

No disrespect to Sir Isaac Newton, but he never had the chance to watch Troy Perkins play. The Portland goalkeeper earned Save of the Week honors for Week 12 after his adjustment on a blocked shot by Vancouver's Sébastien Le Toux in the 58th minute kept the game level.

The big Frenchman made a nice turn in the box and lined up a shot that was heading for the lower left corner of the net. However, a wicked deflection redirected it back in the other direction – whence Perkins just came.

Perkins – who was tops four times in 2011 – won easily, nearly doubling runner-up Matt Pickens of Colorado.
