Player of the Matchday

Perfect 10: De Rosario wins 10th Player of the Week award

Dwayne De Rosario - May 5, 2012

Who do you think should have been named Player of the Week for Matchday 11?

The only thing missing were the goals.

Reigning MVP Dwayne De Rosario may be the league leader in assists and the catalyst of his club's attack, but some still wondered where the goals went after a 13-goal season in 2011.

Until last week, that is.

His three goals keyed D.C. wins and locked up the 10th Player of the Week award of his career as voted by the North American Soccer Reporters for Week 11 (see who and how the media voted here).

His opening goal proved the game-winner in a 2-0 victory over Colorado last Wednesday and he followed that up on Saturday with a brace in a 3-1 win against his hometown club Toronto FC, including a goal after 57 seconds. De Rosario is now up to five goals on the season.

It's been nearly nine years since DeRo's first Player of the Week award in 2003 and he's four awards behind Jeff Cunningham for the league record (14).

The 34-year-old, who has discovered his goal-scoring touch as a withdrawn forward alongside Hamdi Salihi, will next hope to replicate his MLS success during CONCACAF World Cup qualifying when he joins Canada for a friendly against the US and qualifiers against Cuba and Honduras.
