American Exports: Parkhurst's Superliga title hopes dented

Michael Parkhurst of FC Nordsjælland

AMSTERDAM – Despite a Man of the Match showing from American Michael Parkhurst, FC Nordsjælland missed a golden chance to climb into the Danish championship driver's seat after settling for 0-0 draw with visiting survival fighters Odense BK on Monday night.

The US defender had a strong night at right back and nearly won the game for the Wild Tigers in the waning moments. Parkhurst burst into the area at the end of a fine build-up, only to have his shot deflected onto the crossbar by a lunging OB defender.

It was one of several good looks spurned or denied near time for Nordsjælland, who again stand a point behind pacesetters FC Copenhagen with two games remaining in the season. Despite the disappointing result, FCN did manage to extend their Superliga shutout streak to 316 minutes and their unbeaten run to seven games.

Parkhurst & Co. will now make a Sunday visit to Clarence Goodson's Brøndby, while leaders Copenhagen have the Ekstra Bladet Cup final in midweek before making a tricky weekend trip to FC Midtjylland.
