American Exports: Kazlauskas plays hero for Helmond

AMSTERDAM – A pair of Americans clocked in on Thursday, with Helmond Sport right winger Charles Kazlauskas bagging the lone goal in a 1-0 opening leg victory over promotion playoff semifinal guests FC Eindhoven.

After going into the ref's book on the stroke of halftime, the Milwaukee native kissed home a long free kick on 52 minutes for his sixth goal of the campaign. The home side held on to the final whistle in a physical match befitting of its derby status.

Over in Belgium, Mikkel Diskerud came on for the final eight minutes as Gent dropped a 2-1 decision at Standard Liège. Thanks to a third straight defeat, the Buffalos saw their edge for the Europa League playoff place reduced to two points heading into closing day.
