WFC: Chelsea knock out Barcelona, advance to UCL final

WFC - Chelsea celebrate in Barcelona (April 24)

Chelsea FC did the unthinkable on Tuesday.

Down 2-0 to FC Barcelona at the Nou Camp, 10-man Chelsea fought back to tie 2-2 and advance to the UEFA Champions League final 3-2 on aggregate.

The Blues saw their 1-0 first-leg lead erased on a 35th-minute goal by Barcelona's Sergio Busquets. Then disaster struck when defender and captain John Terry was sent off shortly after for kneeing Alexi Sanchez in the back.

It seemed like all hope was lost when Barcelona went 2-0 up through Andres Iniesta in the 43rd minute.

But just before halftime, Ramires gave Chelsea life by finishing off a long run from his newly assumed right back position with a deft chip of Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes.

It was one-way traffic in the second half and Barcelona star Lionel Messi will rue his luck after striking the crossbar on a penalty kick and then hitting the post on a late second-half chance.

Much-maligned Chelsea striker Fernando Torres then put the icing on the cake with a counterattack goal in the 90th minute and Chelsea were through to their second Champions League final ever and the first since 2008.

The Blues, who are also in the FA Cup final, are only a few weeks away from participating in the 2012 World Football Challenge in the USA, where they will take on Seattle Sounders on July 18. They will also face the MLS All-Stars a week later.
