Rolfe to miss TFC matchup with minor ankle sprain

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. –The Fire will have to wait a little while to use their newest attacking option.

Newly re-acquired forward Chris Rolfe rolled his ankle in practice on Thursday while challenging goalkeeper Sean Johnson for a loose ball, and the Fire announced Friday  that Rolfe suffered a mild ankle sprain on the play.

The 29-year-old forward walked off the field with trainers without a noticeable limp. Trainers found no structural damage, according to the team web site, and will evaluate his status day-to-day.

A club official revealed Friday that Rolfe will miss the team’s matchup at Toronto FC on Saturday (3:30 pm ET, NBC Sports Network), and he could be out as many as two weeks, according to the club’s web site.

“We were just doing a finishing drill and the ball came across the goal,” Rolfe told Friday morning. “My toe got stuck in the turf and my body kept going forward and I just rolled over the top of it.”
