Rolfe to miss TFC matchup with minor ankle sprain

Chris Rolfe (center) works out with the Chicago Fire for the first time since returning to the team.

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. –The Fire will have to wait a little while to use their newest attacking option.

Newly re-acquired forward Chris Rolfe rolled his ankle in practice on Thursday while challenging goalkeeper Sean Johnson for a loose ball, and the Fire announced Friday  that Rolfe suffered a mild ankle sprain on the play.

The 29-year-old forward walked off the field with trainers without a noticeable limp. Trainers found no structural damage, according to the team web site, and will evaluate his status day-to-day.

A club official revealed Friday that Rolfe will miss the team’s matchup at Toronto FC on Saturday (3:30 pm ET, NBC Sports Network), and he could be out as many as two weeks, according to the club’s web site.

“We were just doing a finishing drill and the ball came across the goal,” Rolfe told Chicago-Fire.com Friday morning. “My toe got stuck in the turf and my body kept going forward and I just rolled over the top of it.”
