BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. – Chicago Fire coach Frank Klopas said on Thursday that he plans on new acquisition Chris Rolfe being on the gameday roster on Saturday against Toronto FC (3:30 pm ET, NBC Sports Network).
He also said he knows whether he will start Rolfe, given he’s healthy, but he wouldn’t divulge his plan after Thursday’s practice.
“He’s going to be in the 18. He’s been training a couple of days for us,” Klopas said. “He’s just a good all-around player. He’s got good qualities around the goal, he’s a very technical player. He’s just got a lot of good qualities.”
The Fire re-acquired Rolfe just before the spring transfer window closed on Sunday.
The Fire may not be done making moves. When the summer transfer window opens on July 15, Klopas said the team could be active.
“We’ll have to see where we are and where the team is when our second window opens,” Klopas said. “We have the ability always to bring players in that would improve the team, whether they’re DP players or not, we’re always going to be looking to improve the team.”
Gargan the filmmaker
When Fire defender Dan Gargan started filming a short movie during preseason, he didn’t have any expectations as to what it could be.
Gargan’s short movie, which depicts life during the Fire’s preseason, has been shown on the Toyota Park jumbotron before both of the Fire’s home games this season.
“When I first started documenting it, I wanted to see what I could get out of it, but I didn’t know it would be something they would show before every game,” Gargan told MLSsoccer.com. “I’m thrilled that it came out the way that it did. It was a fun project. I look forward to doing more stuff like that.”
Mkosana decision coming
Rookie forward Lucky Mkosana has been with the Fire full-time for over a month after finishing his Dartmouth degree, but the 23rd pick in the MLS SuperDraft remains unsigned.
Klopas said the team is close to making a decision on the 24-year-old Zimbabwean.
“We’ve seen him enough,” Klopas said. “We need to make a decision pretty soon. We’ll be addressing that pretty soon.”
The Fire currently have 29 players on their roster, one below the maximum number allowed.
