The LA Galaxy got one star player back, but essentially swapped him for another ahead of the club’s match Saturday at Sporting Kansas City (4 pm ET, ESPN, ESPN Deportes). Team captain Landon Donovan returned to the fold, traveling to KC with the squad Friday, but David Beckham stayed behind nursing an injury as confirmed by a Galaxy spokesperson.
Donovan missed Saturday’s 3-1 loss to the Revolution in a move manager Bruce Arena said was more preventative than anything. Donovan returned to training on Tuesday and is listed as questionable with a quadriceps injury in Friday’s injury report, though Arena told ExtraTimeRadio that the attacker was "likely" to play.
Beckham, meanwhile, did not train with the club Thursday and was absent for most of Wednesday’s training session as well. Beckham is also listed as questionable, with back spasms. Beckham played just the first half against the Revs, but Arena said after the match the move was a coach’s decision, unrelated to injury.
