John returns to FC Dallas after West Ham loan stint

FC Dallas' George John sealed a loan move to West Ham

FC Dallas are getting some new help with the return of an old friend.

On Friday, the club announced that central defender George John was returning to Dallas this week following the conclusion of a two-month loan stint with West Ham United of the English Championship.

“We’re very excited to have a player of George John’s caliber return to our team,” said FC Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman in a press release. “He has been one of our most consistent players. Without question, FC Dallas is a better team with George John. In speaking with George, he’s very excited to rejoin our team and help FC Dallas compete for a return trip to MLS Cup.”

John has combined with Ugo Ihemelu to form one of the league's best central defensive pairings over the last several years before trying his luck overseas. After having secured the loan to West Ham, however, John failed to see any action for the club, who currently sit on top of the league table.

“It was unfortunate that I didn’t get to play, but it really was understandable given the circumstances,” said John in the release. “I hope West Ham continues its good form and gets back to the Premier League. That’s certainly where the club belongs.”

The 24-year-old is expected to be available for First Kick on March 11, when Dallas take on the New York Red Bulls (3 pm ET, NBC Sports, GET TICKETS).

“I’m glad I had this opportunity and experience, and I want to thank MLS, FC Dallas and West Ham,” said John. “Right now I’m really looking forward to getting back to Dallas. I’ve been in touch with Schellas and I’m ready to get to work.”
