AMSTERDAM — Tottenham Hotspur right winger David Bentley has opened discussions with one mystery Major League Soccer club over a loan move until summer, MLSsoccer.com has learned.

The 27-year-old England international is seeking a short-term stint in America to get the games needed for regaining full fitness from an October knee injury suffered on loan to West Ham United. On Monday, UK tabloid the Daily Mail reported interest from League One promotion hopefuls MK Dons, but Bentley's agent says he favors an MLS sojourn.

"This is something that is really interesting for David, as it will also get him fit through the summer," his rep, Rob Segal, told MLSsoccer.com on Monday. "He would like to go there on loan as soon as possible."

Most well-known for his crossing ability, Bentley has struggled to maintain a Spurs place since arriving from Blackburn in 2008. He has not scored for Tottenham in nearly two years and spent the back half of last season on loan to Birmingham City.

While a teammate of Brad Friedel's at Blackburn, Bentley registered consecutive 11-assist Premier League seasons ending in 2007 and 2008. In all, he bagged 16 goals in 156 career EPL outings.
