OK, so Beckham is back. But can he do it again?
David Beckham is signed, sealed and delivered for the LA Galaxy in 2012 and 2013, and for the first time in his MLS career he enters the preseason as a defending MLS Cup champion. But despite the club's success last season (ho hum, a second consecutive Supporters' Shield, a berth in the CONCACAF quarterfinals and the MLS Cup) they certainly face some challenges to repeating their success in 2012.
The club has already lost Brazilian midfielder Juninho (who signed a deal this offseason with São Paulo), and reigning MLS Defender of the Year Omar Gonzalez could be on the shelf for the duration of the season while recovering from a torn ACL.
Add in the fact that LA will face a taxing CONCACAF schedule and inevitably will have to again run the gauntlet of some of the league's best teams during the regular season (Houston, Real Salt Lake, Sporting KC and Seattle to name a few), and it will be a tall order for the club to become the first repeat champions since the Houston Dynamo won in 2006 and '07.
So what do you think? Will David Beckham and the Galaxy repeat as champs in 2012? Vote now and let us know what you think!
