MLS sides continue strong form in Dev. Academy Showcase

Kellen Gulley

Two more days of the US Soccer Development Academy Winter Showcase are now in the books, and MLS academies continued to face off against their counterparts down in Florida.

On Sunday, the Crew Soccer Academy swept a pair of games against the New York Red Bulls. Brett Elder scored a brace for the Crew’s U-18s in a 3-2 win, while the U-16s defeated New York 2-0, with goals by Michael McCloskey and Andrew McKelvey.

The Chicago Fire Academy also had a good day against fellow MLS club New England Revolution. Recent homegrown signing Kellen Gulley (pictured above) had a standout day for the Fire U-18s, scoring a brace in a 3-0 win.

The Fire U-16s then saw off the challenge from New England’s U-16s by the same 3-0 score line.

In Monday’s action, FC Dallas defeated Real Salt Lake-AZ in a pair of 1-0 wins. Daniel Garcia scored again for the U-18s, and midfielder Aaron Meyer found the back of the net for the FCD U-16s.
