Red Bulls to face Galaxy in Western Conf. Semifinal

With their 2-0 win over FC Dallas in a Wild Card match at Pizza Hut Park on Wednesday night, the New York Red Bulls now get to enjoy the spoils of their victory. Sort of.

Now they face the best team in MLS in 2011.

The win sets up a two-game series with the Red Bulls' cross-country rivals, the LA Galaxy, who won the Supporters' Shield for the second year running. The first leg will take place on Sunday, October 30, at 3 pm ET. It will be broadcast on ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes.

The match sets up a tantalizing clash of marquee names: Thierry Henry, Rafa Márquez and Tim Ream for New York and Landon Donovan, David Beckham and Omar Gonzalez.

This year, the Red Bulls were the only side to post a winning record against the Galaxy. New York drew in LA and then won at home late in the season in a match that was postponed due to Hurricane Irene. If that second match had been played as originally scheduled, it would've featured a full Galaxy squad; as it was, when the match was finally played, the Galaxy left several players home to rest as they had already secured a playoff spot and were on the verge of securing the Supporters' Shield.

Sunday will mark a new chapter in the growing rivalry between the two heavyweights.
