American Exports: Williams helps Hoffenheim to 6th place

AMSTERDAM — Several American Exports clocked in on Saturday, with Fabian Johnson notching the assist and Daniel Williams going the distance in central midfield as Hoffenheim scored a 1-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach.


Johnson, back from injury with 68 minutes of action, slipped trying to tee up an early second half cross, but St. Louis University product Vedad Ibišević promptly cleaned up from the slot for the lone goal of the day. With the win, Hoffenheim climbed to sixth place.


Elsewhere in the Bundesliga, Timothy Chandler and FC Nürnberg are now winless in five after settling for a 2-2 home draw with Stuttgart. The visitors rallied twice, with Mexico defender Francisco Rodríguez knotting the game for good six minutes from time.


Also, US Under-20 forward Terrence Boyd dressed for the first time but did not appear as defending champs Borussia Dortmund strolled up to second with a 5-0 walk past FC Cologne.


Heading to England, Brad Guzan served as backup netminder for Aston Villa's 2-1 loss to EPL guests West Bromwich Albion.


Down one level in the Championship, Robbie Findley went unused in Nottingham Forest's 2-1 victory at Blackpool.


Meanwhile, Conor Doyle watched on as Derby County fell 2-0 at Middlesbrough.


In the Czech Gambrinus Liga, Stefan Jerome came on for the final 13 minutes to help eighth-place Sigma Olomouc pull one back in a 4-1 loss at PÅ™íbram.


Finally, in Portugal, Tony Taylor pitched in 82 active minutes as second-flight leaders Atlético CP moved five points clear with a 1-0 victory at fourth-place Leixões.
