Chicago shoot down report over Ferdinand negotiations

Rio Ferdinand

The Chicago Fire have denied recent speculation linking them with an imminent move for Manchester United and England defender Rio Ferdinand.

Reports were widespread in the British press over the last few days that Chicago were in negotiations with the Red Devils over a possible move for the 32-year-old center back from London. However the Fire have released a statement stating there is no truth in speculation linking Ferdinand with a move to Toyota Park.

“There is no substance to these current reports that the Fire is negotiating with Manchester United and the player to bring him to Chicago,” a Fire spokesperson said. “We have watched and admired the play of Rio Ferdinand for a number of years, and we would be thrilled to have a player of his quality join the Chicago Fire Soccer Club.”

The club statement ends the speculation, which has been rife, and Ferdinand himself seems to be extremely happy with life at Old Trafford.

“I Love everything about playing for MUFC, to be a part of the great history + be a part of creating some,” he recently tweeted.
