GUADALAJARA, Mexico — It was a quiet weekend of action for Americans down south of the border, but DaMarcus Beasley still managed to provide a highlight with his second goal in a Puebla shirt on Saturday.
Beasley converted from a Lucas Silva cross in the 11th minute, but it went downhill for Puebla in the second half when Michael Orozco Fiscal's San Luis scored twice and took the three points.
Former Philadelphia Union defender Orozco Fiscal played the full 90 minutes at center back, while Beasley completed the game in his usual left midfield role. Both will join up with the US squad this week for the upcoming friendlies against Honduras and Ecuador.
Joe Corona was the only other American passport holder to see action. The Los Angeles-born 21-year-old came on at halftime for Club Tijuana and helped them to tie 1-1 against Tigres UANL.
Herculez Gomez did not travel to Morelia with Estudiantes Tecos due to a slight thigh strain, but should be back in training on Monday. Estudiantes beat Morelia 2-0 in his absence.
In other Mexico news, Miguel Ángel Ponce was suspended for Chivas, who lost 1-0 to Querétaro; Texan Sonny Guadarrama scored for Atlante's Under-20s; Jonathan Bornstein wasn't picked for Tigres; midfielder José Francisco Torres is out until November and Club América´s Edgar Castillo and Isaac Acuña were not involved in the team's 1-0 defeat against Mexico City rivals Pumas UNAM.
In Colombia, goalkeeper Diego Restrepo was on the bench for América de Cali's 2-1 win against Huila.
