American Exports: Holden set for Bolton return Tuesday

Stuart Holden put in a full shift for Bolton in a win against Wolverhampton.

AMSTERDAM — Bolton midfielder Stuart Holden will not be working under a minutes cap when he makes his first-team return in Tuesday's Carling Cup third-round clash at Aston Villa.

The US international, who will likely start opposite former MLS rival Brad Guzan, has been out of action for Wanderers since suffering a knee injury at Manchester United in March. Holden has played three reserve matches in recent weeks, going all 90 minutes in the most recent outing.

"As I understand, there are no stipulations on a minutes limit tonight," Bolton press officer Jennie Kozlowski told MLSsoccer.com on Tuesday. "I think it will be played by ear and depend on a number of factors – how Stuart is feeling, score line and the manager’s game plan ahead of the weekend."

Despite missing the last nine EPL games plus and an FA Cup semifinal last term, Holden was named Bolton's Player of the Season. The 26-year-old has played 33 games in all competitions for Bolton since arriving from the Houston Dynamo in January of 2010.
