LA's Beckham has no decision yet on 2012 and beyond

David Beckham of the LA Galaxy - for now

CARSON, Calif. – David Beckham’s contract is up at the end of the season and he apparently has no shortage of suitors for his services in 2012 and beyond.

Beckham has been linked to several European clubs in recent weeks and his current employers are also interested in bringing him back, but the English midfielder insisted he will wait until after the season to decide on his future.

“At the moment I’m a Galaxy player and I will continue to be until … the end of the season,” Beckham said. “Obviously my contract is up, but I’m happy here. We’ll just have to wait and see.”

Beckham has been linked to English sides Tottehnam Hotspur and Queens Park Rangers as well as French side Paris Saint-Germain. Spurs’ manager Harry Redknapp and PSG boss Leonardo have told various media outlets of their respective interest in the former England captain, and QPR have hardly been shy about their aim to sign any big name on the market.

Beckham said he has been in “constant contact” with different teams, but wouldn’t specify which clubs.

“I’ve got a lot of friends on different teams around England, around Europe. I’m in constant contact with people, but I’ve heard the rumors about European teams being after me,” he said. “It’s always nice to be wanted, especially at 36 years old, to still be wanted by some of these big teams and some of these great managers.”

It’s not just European interest, however. Beckham said he and AEG President Tim Leiweke have talked about bringing the player back to LA next season, but that a final decision about anything has not yet been reached.

“The Galaxy obviously want me to stay as well,” he said. “Yeah, we’ve spoke. I’ve spoke with Tim. Obviously we’ve talked through it but Tim knows I have to wait until the end of the season just to see how physically I feel.”

Beckham has played for the Galaxy since 2007 but this is just his second full season with the team. Beckham joined in the middle of the 2007 season and spent all of the 2008 season with the Galaxy before loan spells cost him playing time in 2009 and 2010. In 22 games this season, Beckham has two goals and 12 assists, and his form this year may be playing a part in fueling the rumors of interest abroad.

However, Beckham said such rumors have been commonplace throughout his career.

“There’s rumors,” Beckham said, “but there’s always been rumors about me going places, about me moving back to places.”
