DC United-Portland Timbers make-up match set for Oct. 19

D.C. United vs. Portland Timbers

D.C. United's home match against the Portland Timbers, which was originally scheduled for last Saturday but was postponed because of Hurricane Irene, has been rescheduled for Oct. 19 (8 pm ET), the league announced on Monday.

Tickets from the original contest, bearing the date of Aug. 27, will be valid on Oct. 19.

The reschedule means that United will close out their season with three consecutive home games as they make a final push toward the MLS Cup playoffs. However, those three games will be played in a seven-day stretch that also features games against East foes Chicago Fire on Oct. 15 (7:30 pm ET) and Sporting Kansas City on Oct. 22 (7:30 pm ET).

United currently sit in sixth place in the Eastern Conference, but they are only four points back from from third-place Houston Dynamo while boasting three games in hand (the top three teams in each conference receive automatic playoff berths). DC also sit one point behind New York Red Bulls, who currently occupy the final wildcard berth but have played two more games than their I-95 rivals.
