American Exports: Agbossoumonde on trial in Germany

Gale Agbossoumonde

AMSTERDAM — Having recently finished with a loan spell at Swedish side Djurgården, US defender Gale Agbossoumonde is currently on an extended audition with FC Cologne in Germany.

The 19-year-old center back was given permission to head to RheinEnergieStadion for training a few days before his six-month deal with by Djurgården expired on Aug. 1. He has since played in a couple of friendlies for the Billy Goats. A local source indicated to MLSsoccer.com that the club has been impressed with Agbossoumonde and may look to secure his services before the transfer window closes.

"He's still in training with the U-21 team," FCK press officer Tobias Schmidt confirmed to MLSsoccer.com. "There has been no offer. The decision [on whether to make an offer] is not going to be made for a few days."

Even though the defender currently has no club, he is not a free agent. Cologne would need to strike an accord with Traffic Sports Management, who own his player rights, if they wish to acquire Agbossoumonde. He appeared in eight matches for Djurgården this season, having previously gone without a game while on loan to Portuguese side Braga.
