MLS stars Landon Donovan and Rafa Márquez have lined up on opposite sides countless times. They’ve clashed in MLS, in the Gold Cup, and even in the World Cup, and they have scarcely contained their shared animosity.
But now the US attacker and Mexican defender are going to share the spotlight.
On Wednesday, hours before the US and Mexico face off in a friendly in Philadelphia, Donovan and Márquez were announced as coverboys for EA Sports’ FIFA Soccer ’12. The two are joined by Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.
“Landon and Rafa have been the heart and soul of their national teams, and we have long admired their passion, dedication and exceptional performances,” said Matt Bilbey, vice president and general manager of Soccer, EA SPORTS, in a statement. “They are two of the most respected and recognizable players in North America, and they will play an integral role in helping us launch FIFA Soccer ’12 to soccer fans across the continent. With the addition of Wayne Rooney on the cover, it is truly a blockbuster lineup.”
The game will be available on September 27.
