USOC Roundup: Sporting fall as Fire, FCD go on to semis

Orr Barouch helped the Fire sink the Red Bulls in USOC quarterfinal play.

It was an intense night of action in the quarterfinal round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup that saw a thunderstorm delay, an upset and a blowout. When all was said and done, USL side Richmond Kickers advanced to the final four along with MLS sides Chicago Fire and FC Dallas. The three teams will await the winner of Seattle vs. LA Galaxy, who will play Wednesday night to determine who gets the final slot.

Chicago Fire 4, New York Red Bulls 0 (Full Recap: Fire cruise to victory over Red Bulls)

Behind half-time sub Orr Barouch, the Chicago Fire cruised to a 4-0 win over the New York Red Bulls on Tuesday night at Toyota Park. The 19-year-old Israeli-born striker hit twice in the second half, while Dominic Oduro and Yamith Cuesta added the other two.

With the win, the Fire will now go on to host USL side Richmond Kickers at Toyota Park at 8:30 pm ET on Aug. 30.

FC Dallas 2, Real Salt Lake 0 (Full Recap: FC Dallas run away with 2-0 win vs. RSL)

FC Dallas booked a spot in the semifinals by defeating Real Salt Lake 2-0 at Pizza Hut Park on Tuesday night. A free kick goal from Jair Benítez and a second-half tally from Jackson dug too deep a hole for RSL to climb out of.

With the victory, FCD will go on to face the winner of the LA Galaxy-Seattle Sounders match on Wednesday night.

Should the Sounders win, FCD will travel to face the Sounders at 10 pm ET on Aug. 30. Should the Galaxy win, FCD will play hosts to the MLS Supporters’ Shield front-runners on Aug. 30 at 9 pm ET.

Sporting Kansas City 0, Richmond Kickers 2 (Full Recap: Sporting upset 2-0 by USL side Richmond)

Richmond held their ground through the first 65 minutes, then after an hour-long delay because of a thunderstorm, stunned Sporting with two goals in the game's last 25 minutes.

The Kickers, who won the Cup back in 1995, the season before MLS was founded, will face the Fire at Toyota Park on August 30 for the right to go to the finals.
