WASHINGTON, D.C. – The MLS All-Stars defeated members of the United States National Team, 3-2, in front of 31,096 fans at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C.
After a rain-delayed and scoreless first half, the second half saw five goals in the last 32 minutes.
Landon Donovan opened the scoring for the National Team in the 58th minute, but MLS’s Jason Kreis answered with a goal of his own just one minute later.
D.C. United midfielder Marco Etcheverry, who earned MVP honors, gave MLS a one-goal advantage in the 72nd minute thanks to clever build-up play with teammate Joselito Vaca. The United States did not take long to find an equalizer as midfielder Cobi Jones responded just four minutes later off a cross from Brian McBride.
MLS found the game winner when New England Revolution midfielder Steve Ralston buried a shot in the 81st minute.
This marks the first time in the league’s seven year history that the MLS All-Stars squared off against members of the Unites States national team.
